Q1. What is the TAFEP Exemplary Employer Award?
A1.

Presented by the Tripartite Alliance for Fair Employment Practices (TAFEP), the TAFEP Exemplary Employer Award is a biennial award that recognises exemplary organisations that have effectively implemented fair, responsible and inclusive employment practices.  

Inclusive employment practices include adoption of merit-based HR policies, management of a diverse workforce with synergistic outcomes, as well as strong commitment from senior management for these practices.

Reflecting and leveraging TAFEP’s unique tripartite set-up, the TAFEP Exemplary Employer Award incorporates participation from employer representatives, employee representatives and union leaders, as well as government officials, making it the Award that counts.

Q2. What organisations are eligible to participate in the Award programme?
A2. The TAFEP Exemplary Employer Award is open to all Singapore-based organisations, regardless of size or industry, who have signed the Employers’ Pledge of Fair Employment Practices. Nominated employers who have yet to sign the Pledge can still be eligible for the Award upon doing so.
Q3. What is the Award process?
A3.

The TAFEP Exemplary Employer Award nomination starts 1 September 2011 to 1 November 2011.

Employers must first be nominated by an employee or their union, if unionised. Upon receiving the nominations, TAFEP will contact the nominated employer to inform them of the nomination.

Nominated employers will then be required to complete the Award Submission Form and provide the necessary supporting documentation (such as job application forms and other relevant HR policies). The full award submission must be sent to TAFEP by post to 122 Middle Road #05-02 Midlink Plaza Singapore 188973 or email to award@fairemployment.sg

The panel of judges will review the award submissions to shortlist nominees for the final judging round. The final judging round will comprise a site visit, employee surveys and senior leadership interviews. The winners of the Award will then be determined after this final judging round.

Q4. How do I nominate an employer for the Award?
A4.

Nominations can be made through any of the following ways:

  • Downloading a copy of the nomination form at www.fairemployment.sg/award or contacting TAFEP directly at
    6838 0969. You can submit the form by mailing to 122 Middle Road #05-02 Midlink Plaza Singapore 188973 or faxing to TAFEP at 6732 6849.
  • Emailing the nomination to award@fairemployment.sg, providing the reason(s) for the nomination, as well as the nominator’s name and contact details (including name, telephone number, designation, department, union (if applicable) and organisation).
Q5. Is there any qualifying period?
A5. No, there is no minimum qualifying period. The practices should currently be in place.
Q6. Is there a participation fee for the TAFEP Exemplary Employer Award?
A6. No, there is no participation fee associated with the TAFEP Exemplary Employer Award.
Q7. Who are the judges for the Awards?
A7. The panel of judges for the Awards will comprise industry experts as well as the tripartite members of TAFEP.
Q8. What are the assessment criteria for the Award programme?
A8.

The judging panel will assess the nominated employers, based on the following areas:

  • Fair, responsible and inclusive recruitment and retention practices
  • Proactive efforts to support the employment of a diverse workforce (including older workers, women and persons with disabilities)
  • Senior management support for fair, responsible and inclusive employment practices
  • Internal and external communication of fair, responsible and inclusive employment practices
  • Adoption and implementation of Tripartite Guidelines on Responsible Outsourcing and Re-employment of Older Employees
  • Proactive efforts in sustaining the fair, responsible and inclusive employment practices
Q9. How many Award winners are envisaged?
A9. There is no set number of Award winners. TAFEP and the tripartite judging panel will confer awards based on the quality of the nominations and submissions received.   
Q10. When will the Award winners be announced?
A10. The results of the TAFEP Exemplary Employer Award will be announced at the Conference on Fair Employment Practices in 2012.
Q11. How will Award winners be recognised?
Q11.

TAFEP Exemplary Employer Award winners are acknowledged as role models for fellow organisations. They will be recognised as Employers of Choice with fair, responsible and inclusive employment practices. The winner(s) will be:

  • Presented with an Award trophy;
  • Offered the opportunity to be featured in publications and newsletters;
  • Invited to network with thought leaders and business leaders to share their exemplary practices at future events;
  • Award logo can be used in the organisation’s publicity upon seeking TAFEP’s prior approval

To assist nominated employers in the completion of the Award Submission Form, TAFEP will be conducting briefing sessions at 4pm on 8 September, 14 September and 6 October 2011. Nominated employers can sign up for the briefing sessions by registering at award@fairemployment.sg.
